Q: What do you do for work?

I am a massage therapist, my yoga practice actually lead me to bodywork. I started taking training in Ayurvedic massage and structural integration while I was in India and Bali and eventually enrolled in massage school in NYC. My work requires me to be in tune with my body, just like yoga, and be present for somebody else to relieve pain and stress from the body.

Q: What is your favorite place to travel to?

I love traveling! I am obsessed with Asia, especially India, Thailand, China, and Japan. I’ve been at least twice to those countries and can’t wait to go back. I met my husband while traveling in Thailand. I go back home to Peru every year to visit family as well.

Q: Where are you and your family from, and how has that influenced you?

I was born and raised in Lima, Peru. I come from a big family that loves traveling, so we would spend the summertime by the beach in Lima and travel around the country, visiting family in the Amazon region or going up to the mountains. My culture has taught me that the important things in life are family, nature and good food.

Q: What activities do you like to do outside of yoga?

I enjoy being out in nature, either by the beach or the woods. I enjoy gardening, reading books and going for walks around the city.

Q: When did you discover yoga, and what inspired you to start practicing?

I discovered yoga eight years ago back in Peru after the suggestion of a friend. I fell in love immediately after my first class. Three months later I found myself on a half-primary Ashtanga yoga class and my mind was blown away, I knew I found my practice.

Q: How and when did you start practicing at Sacred Sounds Yoga?

I started practicing on Sacred Sounds Yoga early this year and it’s been the best Mysore program that I’ve found in the city. Michael is a great teacher, the community is strong and everyone is really friendly.

Q: What do you love about yoga?

I love that it gives me permission to disconnect from useless thoughts and brings awareness into my life. It has taught me to accept the changes in life, my body and my mind while relying on the practice will always be there to support me.
